Well-known in the industry for his cutting-edge style, Stuart Gavert was contacted to do the hair color for the cast of the major motion picture Twilight including Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart!
Recently, New Moon’s own, Christian Serratos who plays “Angela” received her very own set of “twilights.” Inspired by the movie and its stars, Gavert has launched a concept of color on highlighting called “twilights.” The idea is to create highlights that can prolong visits to the salon for touch-ups (perf for long months of filming!) and to use a process that is not damaging to the hair.
Christian had a day of beauty being escorted by Dynasty Car Service throughout Beverly Hills. The super sweet actress preferred pizza and diet coke for lunch and had such a fun time being pampered.

The way this hairstyle takes shape is actually not as difficult as you would think!. You can easily do this hairstyle, and similar versions with something as simple as a flat iron!
Start out with damp, or dry hair your choice! I prefer damp hair but not soaking wet! If you are starting with dry hair even just a simple spritzing of water throughout the hair, or on the strand is damp enough. However it is not required!.
Detangle and comb through hair and part where desired. If you are working with hair all one length it is always helpful to use a side part to keep strands as much out of the eyes as possible.
This is where it can get tedious. While this hairstyle is in fact easy to do, it can take some time!
After you have detangled your hair and combed it through. You will start with sections. I like to start from the back just because it is the most difficult when working alone and can often get neglected when styling.
Take a section of hair, no thicker than your finger and twist, twist twist! Yes you are twisting your hair!
Hold the twist lock with one hand, I always tightly twist, but this is entirely dependant on you.
If you want at this time you can also take the time and see how thick you want the strands, and if you want them thicker or thinner. Almost like a “strand test” you can also twist the hair loosely, or tightly to see how the hair turns out and get the effect you desire.
After Twisting the strand you will hold it with one hand and keep in the twist! Next take your flat iron and put the strand between, without letting it untwist or letting go of the very end. Remember we want to keep it twisted! Squeeze down on the flat iron and run it slowly (no you don’t have to go snail slow!) over the strand. I have extremely resilient hair so I can run it in a up and down motion once or twice over my hair and it turns out perfectly, However be careful as with any heat products and many other things this can indeed damage your hair, and you do not want to keep the iron over it too long!
After you run the flat iron over the strand, let go and let loose and you should now have your first piece of twisted hair! As you do more and more you get the hang of it and it can be pretty quick depending on the length and thickness of your hair. if you have thinner hair this also adds thickness to it!
Finish all the strands and you have a simple sexy hairstyle just like Shakira!

Getting gorgeous curls
There are many different ways to get beautiful curls such as perms, hot rollers or a curling iron. Two of my personal favorites that I have the best luck with, when it comes to long thick hair is using a round brush/blow dryer method, or by using perm rods or even the plastic or flexible rollers you can find at any beauty supply store, or even at places like CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart and even Dollar Tree/99 cent stores.
When using a round brush and blow dryer, always start out with your hair damp. Not soaking wet! Comb hair through to take out any tangles. Separate your hair into manageable sections. Then take each section, wrap around the brush and blow dry. If you have a very high blow dryer be careful as not to get too close to your hair. Also do not wrap too tight, this will not only cause the air not to flow all the way through to set the curl, but you can also get your hair tangled as well. Once you have created all your curls, turn your dryer on a cool mode/low heat and run gently through the hair, while also spritzing with a quality holding spray.
If the round brush/blow dryer method isn’t for you, or you want a longer lasting curl. Start out with a sufficient amount of rollers or rods for your hair. Use small or large depending on how big of a curl you want. Now you can start doing this 2 different times. The day of, or the night before. If you opt for doing this the day you need it, you will need a blow dryer to help set the curls faster. If you have the time and patience, and can start the night before, using a blow dryer most likely will not be necessary.
The day of – I would give at least 4 hours time for the curls to set and you to run the blow dryer over all the curls every 30 minutes for the first 2-3 hours and every 15 minutes the last 1-2 hours. Make sure you have no more damp sections. After you are finished, loosely unroll the curls. DO NOT BRUSH. Brushing will make it very frizzy! To style use your fingers and a quality holding spray.
The night before – wrap damp hair the night before in rollers of your choice/size of your choice. I sometimes use a light moose before rolling or a light spray after. let set over night. Once you get closer to the time you need to take the rollers out. Check and make sure all curls are completely dry. If not run a blow dryer over the curls and let cool.Once all curls are dry you can begin unraveling each curl, unravel loosely and DO NOT BRUSH. Style, and finish with a quality holding spray.
