When it comes to coloring your hair, there are many things to consider, having colored my hair for 15 years I have also learned a thing or two myself!.
1. Cheap box, is going to most likely get you just as or even cheaper color. This is not ditching box colors remotely but when doing your hair splurge even a little more for that better brand, trust me its worth it!
2. Do you plan on having your hair colored at a salon, if you do at any point you might want to reconsider using that box color!. Box colors are much different from what is used in a salon, so different that it is very likely they will want to wash your box color out of your hair, this has to do with the different chemicals used in various brands. If you have previously colored your hair, or are thinking about having a professional do it, don’t fret when they ask about this. It is pretty standard (if not required) and could save some mishaps and headaches. It will cost extra however!.
3. Professional does not have to mean pricey! I myself have very thick long hair, which can really add up! So Instead I opt for a cheaper, but still just as quality variety. I go to a local beauty college! Usually they have some sort of Salon set up where the students can get styling hours for school, along with experience and they charge a FRACTION of what you get at a salon. Everything is overseen by professionals regardless (instructors) who usually approve all steps of the process.
4. Wanna Box? If your opting for the box variety definitely don’t skimp it might be cheap and well while cheap doesn’t always mean lower quality there are many out there you want to avoid. I also love highlights to I opt for a color and highlight box that is all in one (but 2 separate applications) has instructions for the highlights with photos and different types of highlights to achieve… and to boot the last time I had my hair professionally colored I had compliments on the coloring and a look of surprise when I said it was from a box!
Either way your choice, make sure you know what your in for. While some colors might look great on people they might not necessarily look great on you. There are also many mishaps that can happen during the coloring process (more-so at home than anything) so be careful, follow the directions and if your opting for the home coloring variety, invest in a bottle of OOPS hair color remover (not for colors that bleach the hair/lighten it) because that Black with blue highlights might not look good on you either.
